Access a GP through Sonder's GP Telehealth

Need to see a GP but don't have time for a traditional appointment? Sonder's GP Telehealth service provides convenient access to registered GPs.

Sonder's clinical assessment may determine that a member would benefit from a Telehealth consultation with a General Practitioner (GP). A Telehealth appointment within our network of GP facilitates convenient access to medical advice and care remotely, utilising video or phone calls. This approach is particularly beneficial for patients with minor ailments, chronic conditions needing regular monitoring, or those who face barriers to accessing traditional healthcare settings.

How it works:

  • Step 1: Contact Sonder: Use in-app chat or call Sonder 24/7 to speak with a Care Specialist or registered nurse.

  • Step 2: Nurse assessment: A registered nurse will assess your concern and determine if a GP appointment is right for you.

  • Step 3: GP call: If a GP appointment is needed, you'll be placed in a queue. In most cases, a GP will call you within an hour. During high-demand periods, it may take up to 24 hours.

  • Step 4: Telehealth consultation: The GP will call you directly for your telehealth consultation.

Things to note:

  • You can contact Sonder 24/7, but GP Telehealth services are available 6AM to midnight (AEST), 7 days a week
  • Telehealth appointment fees may vary depending on time of day and demand
  • The GP will call you directly, you don't need to arrange a specific time slot once you've confirmed your appointment
  • You have the choice between using GP Telehealth, seeing your regular GP, or exploring other support options
  • Our GP telehealth appointments include the ability for the GP to provide members with a medication prescription. This prescription can be utilised by the member at any local pharmacy of their own choosing. The cost of the medication is not currently covered by our service and will need to be purchased by the member.

Frequently asked questions.

Is GP Telehealth covered by Medicare?
GP Telehealth itself is not subsidised by Medicare. However, any prescription medicines that are eligible under the PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme) may be covered.

Can I get a medical certificate via GP Telehealth?
The GP will assess whether a medical certificate is suitable for your situation. If it is, they'll send it to you via SMS and email. Medical certificates are available at a cheaper rate than a standard GP consultation.

Can I see my regular GP instead?
Yes, you can choose to see your regular GP instead of using Sonder's GP Telehealth. When you contact Sonder, the nurse will assess your situation and provide recommendations, including the GP Telehealth option. However, the nurse won't refer you to your regular GP directly, so you'll need to arrange that yourself.

What kind of concerns can GP Telehealth help with?
Common concerns include bumped heads, sick children, lingering coughs, and general medical issues. The nurse will assess whether your concern is suitable for telehealth or if you need a different type of support.
