Sonders qualified workforce

What are the qualifications of the people who provide Sonder's human support?

Care specialists

The first person you and your people will make contact with - either through the call or chat function in the Sonder app - will be a Sonder Care Specialist.

Part intake officer, part health coach, and part community service navigator, Care Specialists are there to support you and your people at any given moment. Importantly, they are there to guide people through a non-clinical triage in order to understand and unpack their reason for reaching out to Sonder.

Care Specialists are qualified in Psychological First Aid and are trained to operate within Sonder’s Wellbeing Model. They’re exceptionally capable at understanding the safety, medical, and mental health needs of you and your people, and will provide guidance and recommendations for the next step of your wellbeing journey. This could be immediate triage for safety and medical, mental health support, or resources to continue your wellbeing journey on your own terms.

Sonder hires Care Specialists from a variety of backgrounds ranging from healthcare post-grads and emergency services operators to health coaches and those with a strong foundation and experience in crisis management and/or personal support services.

Registered Nurses

Registered Nurses (RNs) in the UK, New Zealand, and Australia are highly trained health professionals who provide frontline clinical care across hospitals, community settings, aged care, and more. They assess health needs, deliver treatment, and coordinate care while offering compassionate, person-centred support.

RNs are qualified through accredited tertiary education and maintain professional registration with national regulatory bodies:

  • UK: Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)

  • NZ: Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ)

  • AUS: Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) via AHPRA

Counsellors & Psychologists

Counsellors and psychologists across the UK, New Zealand, and Australia are trained professionals who support people through emotional, psychological, and behavioural challenges. While both provide therapeutic care, their roles vary in scope and specialisation.

Counsellors focus on creating a safe, supportive space for individuals to explore personal issues such as stress, grief, trauma, or relationships. Using approaches like person-centred therapy, CBT, and solution-focused techniques, they help people build resilience and navigate life’s challenges.

Psychologists have advanced training in mental health assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based therapies. They often work with more complex or clinical presentations, applying therapeutic methods such as CBT, ACT, and trauma-informed care in a wide range of settings.

Both professions are governed by national regulatory or professional bodies to ensure ethical, high-quality care:

  • UK: Counsellors – BACP, UKCP, NCS; Psychologists – HCPC, BPS

  • NZ: Counsellors – NZAC; Psychologists – NZ Psychologists Board, NZPsS

  • AUS: Counsellors – ACA, PACFA; Psychologists – Psychology Board of Australia (via AHPRA), APS

Together, counsellors and psychologists offer essential support for mental wellbeing—meeting people where they are, and helping them move forward with confidence and care.

General Practitioners

General Practitioners (GPs) are fully qualified medical doctors who provide comprehensive, front-line healthcare across the UK, New Zealand, and Australia. They diagnose and treat a wide range of physical and mental health conditions, manage chronic illnesses, and coordinate ongoing care.

GPs serve as the first point of contact in the healthcare system, offering preventative care, medical advice, prescriptions, and referrals to specialists when needed. They build long-term, trusted relationships with patients, supporting health and wellbeing at every life stage.

All GPs must complete extensive medical training and hold registration with national regulatory bodies:

  • UK: General Medical Council (GMC)

  • NZ: Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)

  • AUS: Medical Board of Australia via AHPRA
