Team Safe

 

Scene 8 - Incident Response

Team Safe gives your organisation real-time visibility of your people's safety during work activities — without compromising their privacy.

Employees stay in control, choosing exactly when to share their location and with whom. Managers get the confidence of knowing their team is safe and accounted for.

What does Team Safe include?

Team Safe adds three powerful capabilities to the Sonder app:

Check On Me + Share Share your location during a scheduled check-in

It also gives managers a Team Dashboard (list and map view) to monitor their team's safety status in real-time.


For Members

Share My Shift

Use this when you're heading into a major event, deployment, or any high-risk work situation.

To start a shift:

  1. Tap Share my shift on the Safety home screen.
  2. Add a contact — search by mobile number or Sonder account email.
  3. Set your shift end time (choose a specific time or use a countdown).
  4. Optionally add a note (e.g. location, task) to share with your contact.
  5. Tap Start shift.

Your location is shared for the duration of the shift only. Once the shift ends — or you end it manually — location sharing stops automatically.

Tip: Your shift ends automatically at the scheduled time. You don't need to remember to close it.

Track My Journey + Share

When starting a Track My Journey, you'll now see a Share with someone toggle.

Toggle it on, select a contact, and your live location will be shared with them for the duration of your journey. Tap Stop tracking when you arrive to end the journey and stop location sharing.

Check On Me + Share

The same principle applies to Check On Me. Toggle on Share with someone, select a contact, and they'll be able to see your location until the check-in ends.

If something goes wrong

Tapping I need help during any activity immediately escalates a support case with the Sonder Support Centre. Your shared contact is notified, and if needed, Sonder will contact them before deploying a Responder or escalating to Emergency Services.


For Managers

When a team member shares an activity with you, it appears in your Activities Shared with Me dashboard — accessible from the Safety home screen.

What you can see:

  • Each member's name, current status (Live or Offline), and last known suburb
  • Activity type (Work Shift, Track My Journey, Check On Me, or Help Alert)
  • When the activity started and any notes the member added

Map view — switch to the map to see all active members as pins:

  • 🔵 Blue pin = live location (we received a location update successfully)
  • Grey pin = last known location (device was offline when last checked)

Escalation alerts — if a member raises a Help Alert or an activity goes overdue, the activity card is highlighted in orange. Once the Sonder Support Centre confirms the member is safe, it turns green.

Note: You'll receive an alert through the app if an escalation is triggered — no separate system needed.


Privacy

Team Safe is built on a simple principle: you are always in control.

  • ✅ Location sharing is always opt-in — you choose to start it
  • ✅ You choose who sees your location
  • ✅ Sharing is time-limited — it stops automatically when the activity ends
  • ✅ Location is never always-on — your manager cannot see your location outside of an active shift or safety activity
  • ✅ Off-duty is truly off — if you haven't started a Team Safe event, no one in your organisation can see your location

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I share my shift with more than one person? Not currently. You can share with one active member from your organisation at a time.

Can I share with someone outside my company? Not at this stage — sharing is limited to active members within your organisation.

Will Team Safe drain my battery? Team Safe uses silent background tracking with the screen off to minimise battery impact.

What does "Offline" mean on a member's card? It means we were unable to retrieve the member's location the last time we checked — this could be due to the member losing connectivity, a network issue, or the activity ending. Their last known location is still displayed.

What if I lose connectivity during a shift? Your shift session remains active on the server even if your device goes offline. Once connectivity is restored, the app automatically syncs.

Can my manager see my route during a Track My Journey? No — your contact can only see your last known location, not a full route history.

Does the app track me when Team Safe is inactive? Sonder does use background location for features like location-based safety notifications, but this is never shared with anyone in your organisation outside of an active Team Safe event.
