Check on Me: Get a discreet safety check-in
Check on Me is a safety feature that lets you ask the Sonder team to check in on you during an uncertain situation or at a time that suits you. It's a discreet way to have someone looking out for you.
How can I use Check on Me?
Steps:
- Open the Sonder app and tap the Safety tab at the bottom of the home screen.
- Tap Check on Me.
- Choose how long you think you'll need, or select a specific time for the Sonder team to check in on you.
- Add any extra details about who you're meeting or where you're going (optional). This helps the team understand your situation better if they need to help.
- When the time is up, the Sonder team will check in and ask you to confirm you're okay. If you need more time, tap Snooze to extend the session.
What happens if something goes wrong?
If the Sonder team can't confirm your safety, we do everything we can to help. Depending on what's happening, we may:
- Deploy one of our responders to your location
- Contact your nominated next of kin
- Contact the relevant security representative at your workplace
- Contact emergency services

When should I use Check on Me vs Track my Journey?
Use Check on Me when you want a discreet check-in at a specific time or after a certain duration (e.g. "Check on me in 2 hours" or "Check on me at 10PM"). The Sonder team checks in with you at that time.
Use Track my Journey when you're actively travelling from one place to another and want real-time monitoring of your location during the journey.
What are some examples where I could use this?
Whenever you want peace of mind, whether you're meeting someone new, going to an unfamiliar location, picking something up off Facebook Marketplace, with someone who makes you feel on edge, or just want someone keeping an eye on things. It's for any situation where you'd like a safety check-in.
What if I provide details about the person I'm meeting, can they see that information?
No. Any details you provide about who you're meeting or where you're going are only seen by the Sonder team. They use this information to help them understand your situation and respond appropriately if needed. The person you're meeting won't see any of this information.
Can my workplace see if I'm using Check on Me?
No. Check on Me is a personal safety feature, not a workplace tool. Your workplace can't see if you're using it unless you explicitly tell them. It's completely confidential and between you and Sonder. The only exception to this is if your organisation has purchased Team Safe, and you individually have opted to share this journey with your allocated manager.
Can I cancel Check on Me before the check-in time?
Yes. You can cancel or adjust your Check on Me session at any time through the app. Just let the Sonder team know if your plans change.
Why won't Sonder chat with me if I'm driving?
If you mention you're driving or we notice it, the team will ask you to either pull over to chat safely, or to call back when it's safe. This is a judgement call our care team makes with every member, as your safety comes first and we don't want to be a distraction while you're driving.
